Our Village

The municipality of Barreirinhas has more than 200 villages, divided into several regions, one of which is the beach region. In this region you can find Atins, Bar da Hora, Mandacaru, Caburé, Vassouras, Morro do Boi, among others.

The town of Bar da Hora is strategically located between Mandacaru and Atins. We are a fishing village that works with tourism, but preserves its ancestries, such as traditional fishing. We are part of the buffer area of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park and are an environmental preservation area.

Our effective participation in tourist activity with accommodation and food outlets began in 2016.

We currently have five accommodation options, most of which are available on the Airbnb platform or by referral. Our food outlets have gained prominence in the region, distinguishing themselves by their typical and sustainable cuisine, based mainly on fishing and local production.

Our Association of Residents and Fishermen, created in 2008, is one of the solid foundations within the community. It is within this association that we discuss the direction of tourism we desire, gain voice in public forums and embrace projects that build the community, such as the School Day Care Project, which already has the participation of ten donors from the private sector. Furthermore, we have a group of entrepreneurs who allocate 2% to 5% of their net profits to the tourism fund, used to finance new businesses and promote small improvements for the town and visitors.
